Soon after I shared that George was ‘on the mend’ yesterday, he took a turn for the worse (blame Friday 13th).
His stomach swelled up and he was in a lot of discomfort.
At midnight we were transferred by ambulance to Sheffield Children’s Hospital where he is now being treated for Enterocolitis
It’s an inflammation of the gut – often associated with Hirshprung’s disease which George had surgery for in early 2016.
It can be serious, but we’ve caught it quickly and treatment has started. We’re back doing rectal washouts again to relieve his intestines and he is on strong antibiotics. Looks like he will be in hospital for the next few days at least.
[I know the picture looks bad but don’t be alarmed; he hasn’t had a head injury as well! Unfortunately the only place they could find a good vein for his drip was in his scalp so the bandage is keeping that in place and the splints on his arms are to stop him from pulling on all his wires.]
